Herzlich Willkommen bei Wernersreuth!
Welcome to Wernersreuth!
After leaving Erfurt behind, with happy memories and dreams of future studies, we made our way across Germany to Wernersreuth, which is only a few miles from the Czechoslovakian border. We stayed there for two days, while we visited the nearby town of Waldsassen, home of Lamberts Glass Factory. I'll have more about that adventure in the next post, but for now check out Wernersreuth. It was quite remote and very quiet, but also very picturesque and tranquil.

Our hostel for the night, Das Maximillian Kolbe Haus. Think Girl Scout Camp. |
Great signage in case you get lost on the village's two streets. |
The town cat. |
Meet the neighbors. |
The village church with the characteristic onion-domed bell tower. |
A typical grave marker.
The graves are only used for 25-30 years, before re-use, but in that time are immaculately cared for by family members, who light candles and plant gardens over the grave of their loved ones. It was very touching. |
A lantern to show you the way. |
A crystal clear sky overhead. |
Another view of the church at the center of the village. |
Ready for a long winter already!? Its only March! That's some serious preparation. |
The sights. |
Easter is just around the corner.
Many of our traditions come from Germany by way of Prince Albert of England,
who was German first, and married Queen Victoria. |
Some more locals. We didn't actually see any people. |
Waldsassen is 8 km that way>>>> Stayed tuned for adventures in glass-making coming soon. |
