If I Fell; from Regensburg Cathedral

This is where we started.
(like normal people, on the ground)

 This is where we ended
(the platform between the two towers)

And this is how we got there...
The Donkey Tower

This tower was built during the original construction of the Dom, and has a dirt ramp inside, which donkeys would climb hauling stones up to the top of the building. It was never taken down, and for a special treat we got to climb it up to the upper level of the outside of the church.

Danae and Nick climbing inside the tower.
Lizzy and Sebastian climbing the tower.
The views on the way up...

Stained glass students perched on the outside ledge of Regensburg Dom (cathedral), led by the Master Stone Mason who climbs up to this level 3-4 times a day!
The first view from the top. Wow! I loved it up there!
For some reason they put the handrail on the inside of the ledge! Stained glass students accompanied by professors from York and Erfurt Universities.
A close look at the protective glazing and a far off view of the city. Such a lovely city.
The view of the original medieval bridge which Crusaders used to cross the Danube and Regen Rivers, which meet here.
Looking down to say Hello to another student.
Dr. Ivo Rauch enjoying the view.
Spires of the Dom compete with tops of towers in the city.
Stone masons having a casual chat on the roof of the Dom.
Trying to stay balanced on the ledge.

Another tower in the distance. Town merchants competed for the highest tower award.
Buttresses Flying.

Catching some rays and having a chat, as you do, on the top of the Dom.
And that's where we are headed next!
Medieval masons marks discovered during the climb.
These fascinate me!

Buildings in the Domplatz.
Scroll to the right, its worth it...
We have climbed up even farther and are now on the walkway between the two towers looking over the roof of the Dom. This was not for the faint-hearted!

Two friends  wait for us in the Domplatz below.

Standing under suspended loads prohibited!

My reward at the bottom. Weissbier before lunch.
As E. Dent says "Oh Hey!"
The historic Regensburg Sausage Stand with a Medieval merchants warehouse in the background.
The worlds oldest sausage stand dates back to the 12th century in this spot.
At the sausage stand. Check out his hat. Classic.
The Sausage Stand kitchen.
This was the best sausage we ate in Germany!
Farewell Regensburg. We too must journey onward.
